New sleep apnea regulations

As of March 2, 2015 the Federal Aviation Administration will issue new guidelines for sleep apnea. It is important to note that the FAA is not changing medical standards regarding obstructive sleep apnea but are enhancing the screening approach to Address industry, congressional, National Transportation Safety Board, and safety concerns about pilots flying with obstructive sleep apnea. It is now more important than ever that pilots start to be aware of their height weight ratio and make certain that they conform to a normal body mass index (BMI) to reduce their risk of obstructive sleep apnea. If you feel you are overweight it is never too early to start to exercise, eat right, and take corrective measures to reduce an elevated body mass index and subsequent risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea.
